Beach / Picnic Quilt
One of our wedding presents was a large black gingham tied quilt. I didn't know it at the time but it was going to be the most used gift we received. It went to the beach, car trips, in the backyard for building forts, and taken on picnics. It had gotten lost in a move somewhere along the way so it was time for a replacement, something fun and easy.
Since I needed to be up in my quilt studio catching up on etsy orders, I decided today would be a good day to dive into my fabric stash and make a new beach quilt. So I picked 20 fat quarters all
polka dots, and created a new beach quilt.
A Tutorial to Make Your Own Beach / Picnic Quilt
March Giveaway
Dear Friends,
One of my most fun parts of blogging is the monthly giveaway. I love coming up with the prize, and especially notifying the winner. I enjoy reading your comments and being able to make a personal connection with you. I look forward to many more giveaways.
This month's winner will receive a fabric bundle to make the quilt top all cut out and ready to sew.
And I will quilt it for you when you are finished piecing the quilt.
I will also randomly pick 2 other winners to receive quilting of their pieced quilt top.

AH! I love this quilt - it's so simple and still very pretty. I've been following your blog for a while, and love reading about and seeing the different areas of your house. It's helpful when trying to think of ways to decorate my apartment :). Hope I win!

ReplyDeleteMy absolute favorite post of yours was the one about monograms! I love monograms and adore the letters you have on your wall representing all of your grandbabies! I am now on the hunt for some unique letters to represent my hubby, myself and our daughter somewhere in our house!
ReplyDeleteYou have no idea how much I am looking forward to learning your quilting basics. I've really been into quilting the last few years (okay, maybe not by your family's standards, but 3-4 big quilts a year), but I absolutely can not bind them myself. When I try it looks terrible and my mother-in-law does it in a way I don't love. So I end up paying for someone to do it or just leave a bunch of quilts quilted but not bound for months/years sometimes. So I would love to see a step by step with pictures of how to bind! Thanks! Love your blog. Oh--and one more question. Square corners or rounded? What do you like best?--Melissa
ReplyDeleteBinding will be on friday.
Deletei always love recipe posts - loved the chocolate cake that mere made. And, I love and am looking forward to more of your before/after design posts with mood boards.

ReplyDeletethere is no way that I would ever be able to choose a favorite blog entry but I will say that i have made lots and lots of your oatmeal cookies!!
ReplyDeleteI loved the post about your Grandson and your etsy shop. I admire your 100% donation to the JDF. Diabetes has such an effect on so many people. It doesn't discriminate. It does however young and old and in between.
ReplyDeleteI do understand it I have a sister who had diabetes type 1, diagnosed when she was 13 years old in 1980. I also have a niece who was diagnosed at 2 years old, in 1993. They were both very lucky to have great doctors and loving families. It can be challenging.
I hope and pray that they come up with a cure soon. Your donations will surely help. They also will show your family how lucky they are to have a loving Mom and Grandma who is so talented.
Plan on ordering myself in shortly.

ReplyDeleteThe post today about quilting basics looks like a great introduction to a fabulous tutorial! I just made my first "real" quilt this winter for my mother-in-law and am looking forward to picking up some new tricks and tips from the series. Thanks for sharing your knowledge!
ReplyDeleteMuch as I love browsing all your fun design posts (my house will NEVER come close to being that organized), my favorite has to be your orange bun recipe. Yum!

I can't get over how cute those polka dot fabrics are - so bright and fun. The post about piecing and placing seams together was helpful. I need to invest in a table-top ironing board because I hate having to drag out our giant iron to do all the of pressing that is oh-so-important!
ReplyDeleteOh my this is an amazing prize! I would loooooooooooove to win! (not sure, is that too many o's? Overkill? LOL!) Your posts are so fun, I loved the detailed look at your dining room (and may I say I am a little bit jealous). Sigh. One day! :)
ReplyDeleteI tweeted the giveaway, too! @Jennyroo1

ReplyDeleteI saw this link posted on facebook (thanks to "Mrs.Goates"). I LOVE quilting. It was something that I did with my grandmother when she was still alive. I wish I had time now to do it... maybe if I tried easier patterns like this (and had a sewing machine) I could do it. Anyway, loved the idea.
ReplyDeleteHow fun is this? Love it.
ReplyDeleteI made my first quilt ever last year for my baby girl-a puff quilt so different than regular quilting. You make little pillows, then sew them all together, then many other steps. Maybe I need to try a straightforward quilt now. Love that the pieces are already cut and you'll do the quilting, that's an amazing prize!
Favorite post, hmm...the tour of your quilting room was lots of fun. I couldn't get over the picture of the fabric bolts in the shower, hilarious and wonderful. :)
